Results from the 2011 ROAR! for Thanksgiving Food Drive
Wednesday, November 30, 2011
Our entire Lions Club would like to thank all the kind community members who donated canned goods or cash during our recent ROAR! for Thanksgiving food drive at VGs and Wal-Mart. The combination of funds and goods raised during our one-day event, and monetary donations collected throughout the year, we were able to help a lot of families who needed a Thanksgiving boost this year.
Just a reminder that our project involves collecting funds and
food for people who aren't able to provide a Thanksgiving dinner for
their families. We sort food and pack them into boxes, purchase turkeys
and additional food, and then hand out food boxes, turkeys, and other
goodies during the week of Thanksgiving. This is all done through
Gleaners Food Bank.
Here is a recap of how this year's Thanksgiving project turned out:
Food donations received during food drive: About 1,500 lbs.
Monetary donations received during food drive: $1,06.50
Families served: 210
People served: 827
Food purchased for families in need: 8,118 lbs.
Avg. cost per family served: $5.46
That's right, 210 families in
Livingston County had warm Thanksgiving meals on their dinner tables
thanks to the generosity of community members like you. It also would
not have been possible without cooperation from Gleaners Food Bank and
The Salvation Army.
We hope everyone had a warm and giving Thanksgiving holiday!
ROAR! for Thanksgiving Food Drive on Nov. 5
Friday, October 21, 2011
ROAR! for Thanksgiving with us by dropping off canned goods and donations to our collection carts on Saturday, November 5 - one day only! We are working to help feed families in need in Livingston County this Thanksgiving. Your donations will help make sure families have a warm holiday meal on their tables.
WHERE: VG's in Brighton and Wal-Mart in Howell
WHEN: Saturday, November 5, during the day
Bring your canned goods and non-perishable foods (or pick some up at the grocery stores!) and fill our carts in order to feed families in need. The food items and cash donations will be donated directly to Gleaners Food Bank, and will go toward our ROAR! for Thanksgiving program, in conjunction with the Salvation Army, to provide meal boxes for families this Thanksgiving. Please stop by and share with those in need this chilly holiday season.
