Results from the 2011 ROAR! for Thanksgiving Food Drive

Our entire Lions Club would like to thank all the kind community members who donated canned goods or cash during our recent ROAR! for Thanksgiving food drive at VGs and Wal-Mart. The combination of funds and goods raised during our one-day event, and monetary donations collected throughout the year, we were able to help a lot of families who needed a Thanksgiving boost this year.

Just a reminder that our project involves collecting funds and food for people who aren't able to provide a Thanksgiving dinner for their families. We sort food and pack them into boxes, purchase turkeys and additional food, and then hand out food boxes, turkeys, and other goodies during the week of Thanksgiving. This is all done through Gleaners Food Bank.

Here is a recap of how this year's Thanksgiving project turned out:

Food donations received during food drive: About 1,500 lbs.

Monetary donations received during food drive: $1,06.50

Families served: 210

People served: 827

Food purchased for families in need: 8,118 lbs.

Avg. cost per family served: $5.46

That's right, 210 families in Livingston County had warm Thanksgiving meals on their dinner tables thanks to the generosity of community members like you. It also would not have been possible without cooperation from Gleaners Food Bank and The Salvation Army.

We hope everyone had a warm and giving Thanksgiving holiday!
